Book Review: A Good Year

By Peter Mayle

Rating: 3 stars.

It’s not often I can reference the books I’ve read in random conversations with employees at Total Wine.  I managed to do just that today with this one.  It was an entertaining, quick read with a little mystery, a lot of wine-talk, and a sub-plot of friendship.

The premise is that the author, after quitting (really being harassed out of) his job, finds out that he has inherited his uncle’s vineyard and home in France.  The rest of the story is the tale of how he cleans up the property, solves the mystery of the vines across the stone wall, and manages to find himself and his best friend love.

Entertaining story! I’m planning to read other books by Peter Mayle.
