Pinehurst Trip

My room at Pinehurst

Thanks to advice from one of my new friends, who happens to be a tech and blogging whiz, I’m going to drop the cloak of anonymity I had when I first started this blog last month. So a little (real) bio is this: I am the director of an awesome 501(c)(3), NC LEAP (North Carolina [...]

This morning, I thought it would be nice to come home to a hot meal for dinner. A very relaxing start to the weekend, I was hoping! So, I put into the crockpot: 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, frozen Sprinkled them with flour, salt and pepper Then added: 2 cans low-sodium cream of mushroom soup [...]

Homemade Pizza and Cinnamon-Apple Pastry

Homemade Pizza

Last Sunday was a pretty crummy day for a lot of reasons. So what’s a girl to do? Bake, of course! I had just read the latest issue of Everyday Food, and thought I’d try out two of their recipes. The first was for basic pizza dough: 2 packets active dry yeast 2T sugar 1/4c [...]

Painting, take 1

Sorry for the delay between posts–I was traveling for work last week, and did a lot of eating, but not much cooking or reading or decorating while I was gone. This week is just as busy, just less traveling. This week, we’ve been contemplating (more heavily than usual) the colors we’ll be painting our downstairs. [...]

Quick Artisan Bread

Dough

This week, I’ve been experimenting with quick-to-mix and easy bread recipes. I tried this recipe, and am happy with the results. Actually, I’ve made two of the loaves this recipe makes, with slightly different baking times, and both times had great results. The recipe: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3c. lukewarm water with 1.5T [...]

Cheese Review 2-9-10

Tonight we tried two new cheeses: Bucheron Aged French Goat, and Belle Chevre. The french goat was creamy and smooth, with a firm texture. It was much milder than the chevre, and had a bit of a nutty flavor. The chevre was light and easy to spread, and was a little tart with citrus aftertastes. [...]

New Bedding Review

Eric putting the duvet inside the cover

A few weeks ago, I posted about our new bedding here. Since then, we’ve been able to sleep under the new bedding for a few days, and we LOVE IT! The jersey sheets are fabulous–soft, comfortable, and cozy. They look great with the new duvet cover, which is also light and comfortable. It’s noticeably lighter [...]

Savory Crockpot Chicken

Served over rice

While my turkey sausage cooks for breakfast this morning, I thought I’d post a few updates from the last week’s cooking. Apologies for being slack–I started a new, very demanding (but awesome!) job that is taking up a lot of my time that I used to spend cooking, baking, and reading. I’m trying to find [...]

Spiced Sweet Salmon

After an awesome, refreshing weekend away, I’m back in the kitchen today. For dinner tonight, I wanted to make salmon, but I’m fairly picky about what I’ll eat on my salmon. If I’m eating white fish, pretty much anything goes–I’ll eat everything from a simple pan fry to an elaborately sauced fish. But for some [...]
