So I took the plunge and signed up for My Glam and Birchbox. I wanted to see if these programs, with their deluxe-sized samples and occasional full-sized products lived up to the hype. Each one had a waitlist of a couple of weeks, but for $10 a month, my evaluation is that they totally live up to the hype. $10 is less than I usually spend at Target on non-essential products in a month, and these sample bags let me try brands that I can’t necessarily find at Target or Walgreens–which, who am I kidding, are the only places I manage to get to in any given month. They also let me try products I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself, but that I want to try. Here’s a look at what both held this month:
Birchbox:
-Jouer Lip Enhancer
-The Balm’s Staniac
-Ada Cosmetics Bronzer
-Harvey Prince Hello Perfume
-Larabar uber bar
-Birchbox headphones
Glam Bag:
-Yes to Cucumbers Face Wipes
-Juice Beauty SPF 15 Moisturizer
-NuMe Hydropunch Conditioner
-Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish
-Andrea’s Circus full-sized nail polish
I’m going to do mini-reviews of each of the products, but at first glance, I’m definitely happier with the Glam Bag than with Birchbox. That said, the Birchbox Larabar was my favorite thing out of both boxes. So far, I love the Buxom lip gloss, the Jouer lip enhancer, and the Yes to Cucumbers wipes. I don’t really care for the Staniac yet. I’m on the fence about the perfume. Haven’t gotten a chance to try anything else!
While I get the product reviews ready, tell me: Have you heard of subscription-based services like these before? Do you subscribe? If so, which services do you subscribe to?
