A Path Forward

There are a lot of days where I can’t seem to see the way ahead. The path to my ultimate goals. Sure, I’ve tried visualization, meditation, journaling, classic goal-setting topics. I think over the years, I’ve made a little progress in a forward-type direction over the past year, but even after the personal development work, I’ve realized I’m 36 and am still figuring out this thing called life.

Here’s what I know:

  • I love staying active. Having the energy and motivation to be fit and have the ability to play with my son are paramount.
  • Food and healthy nutrition are fun. Cooking is fun, especially when I have a great sous chef like Ethan or Eric. And knowing where our food comes from, learning about cultivating/harvesting our own food, and participating in the process (through either growing our own or getting to know our local farmers) is one of the most important things we can do.
  • Meal planning helps us both stay on budget and get the most out of our ingredients–and several years ago, when I was studying at the Academy of Culinary Nutrition, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I really loved meal planning.
  • Being a parent, wife, employee, entrepreneur, housekeeper, friend, daughter, world traveler, and explorer is tough. Integrating those things together is important to keep me balanced and happy…but there’s definitely some give and take with all of those relationships.
  • Adventure sometimes comes from the small things. It doesn’t always have to originate from a “big” vacation. Sometimes, planning a new garden, or hiking a new route near home will do the trick. (Although I do recognize that this is much easier with kids!)

Since my last post, I’ve run twice. Short distances–a mile or 1.5. I’m also still in PT twice a week, although I only have three more sessions until I have to move on to an MRI. For the remainder of the week, I’m looking forward to getting out of the house before the heat and treating my body with love and respect. Walking for an hour, observing the world of our neighborhood, and hopefully spotting some wildlife while getting my sweat on.
